Top Ten Tuesday (Oct 11th) – Books I Read Because Of Twitter

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in which you make a list of ten to do with a certain topic. This weeks topic is“Top Ten Books I Read Because Of Twitter”.

Before I joined the book blogging community and before I even knew what booktube was, I was very active on twitter. Now I never really followed bloggers but I did follow a lot of readers and I found most of the books on my TBR pre-blogging because of their tweets.

After the Twilight hype had died down, I wasn’t interesting in reading another vampire book. However, everyone was constantly raving about this series and so I decided to finally give it a try. I really enjoyed them and I remember just binge reading the entire series. I’m currently making my way through the spin-off series, Bloodlines, and I’m enjoying them just as much (if not more).

I probably would never have picked this up if it wasn’t for Twitter. I wasn’t a fan of aliens and I had no interest in reading a book about them but a friend of mine was constantly raving about this series and insisted I read it. Looking back on these books I probably wouldn’t like them as much now as I did then, which is probably why I have yet to finish the final book.

2767052The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I can still remember when it was announced that Jennifer Lawrence would be playing Katniss and everyone was suddenly raving about this trilogy. Before the movie news dropped, I had no idea what this trilogy was about but once it was announced this series was everywhere. Suddenly the majority of my twitter mutuals were either reading the series for the first time or changing into stan accounts for it. So, naturally I had to jump on the bandwagon.

28187The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Now this one isn’t strictly true. Originally, I watched the movie which made me want to read the books. I then tweeted about it and had so many people telling me I had to read the series because it was way better than the movie, which is what pushed me to pick them up when I did.

10576365The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

I only read this recently but it was on my TBR since 2014 I believe. I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to pick this up since there was so much hype around this book a few years back. I do think this was a really good first book and I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

13455782Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I read this a year ago but I’ve yet to continue on with the series. When I first heard about this series there was nothing but positive things being said about it. However, now there are a lot of mixed things being said about the other two books and the direction Mafi took certain characters arcs in. It has made me hesitant to continue but ultimately I’ve decided I will since I really enjoyed the first book and I loved Mafi’s writing style.

Before reading this series I hadn’t really had a great experience with books centered around Angels. This trilogy changed that. If you’re looking for something with a kickass protagonist who’ll do anything to protect her family, a deadly angel and some gruesome scenes then you should definitely give this a shot.

15753977Legend by Marie Lu

Now I’m not a huge fan of dystopian books anymore but I did really love this one. I’ve only read the first two books in this trilogy and I plan to get to the final installment before the year is over. I have heard the last book is heartbreaking and I’m not sure if I’m really for that just yet.

23437156Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This is hands down my favourite book on this list. I will forever be thankful to the people who pushed me to read Bardugo’s books because she’s now one of my all time favourite authors. If you haven’t read this yet, what are you doing?

4932435Finnikin of The Rock by Melina Marchetta

I think I’ve seen this book being mentioned on booktube once, but other than that I’ve only ever seen people talk about it on twitter. I read this book last month and absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to continue on with this trilogy.

Where do you find most of your book recommendations? Have you read any of the books I mentioned above? What did you think of them? Tell me in the comments!

I love that you found books because of Twitter. That’s really cool. There’s so much negative stuff on there lately that it’s nice to know something positive came out of it! Plus, awesome books!

I still need to read the last two on your list, there has been so many people talk (AKA massively fangirling, obsessively raving about it’s awesomeness and gushing) over Six of Crow and now that the sequel is out I am might just read them back to back 🙂 Finnikin of The Rock is one I originally came across on Goodreads but I have also seen Regan at PeruseProject over on Booktube talking about it.

I absolutely discover most of my books through the blogs I follow – it’s nearly impossible to keep up with all of the new books coming out, and my reading time is limited, so I rely a lot on reviews to help me decide what I’m going to spend precious reading time on! 🙂
