Monthly To Be Read – February 2017

monthlytbr

You may have already seen my February TBR post on my blog last Sunday, however, for some strange reason the post deleted itself and I can’t seem to find it anywhere to restore it. Originally, I was planning to just forget about it and continue blogging as usual but since I enjoy looking back at these posts at the end of the month I’ve decided to rewrite it.

Since we are over a week into the month I have already finished reading four books, which I’ll talk about in my wrap up post at the end of the month.

TBR Jar Challenge(s)

Read a book you’ve owned since 2014 or earlier

The vast majority of unread books on my shelf were purchased in either 2014 or earlier, so I have loads of options for this challenge. Currently I’m leaning towards Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins for a few reasons: 1. I own the sequel too so I must’ve thought I’d like this 2. It’s been so long since I purchased this that I can’t even remember what it’s about (I used to think it was the book with the darkling but I’ve read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo so I know that’s not true) and 3. I remember everyone used to love this a few years ago so I do want to see what all of the hype was about.

Read the final book in a series

I do have only twelve challenges in my jar, and so the obvious thing to do would be picking one challenge each month. That’s what I tried to do last year but I’ve come to realize there are two months (aka the month of finals and the month before) when I don’t read much at all and so I don’t want to have the pressure of trying to complete a challenge when I should be focusing on my exams or trying to find time to complete two challenges at a later month. So, I’ve decided to double up on challenges during months I think I’ll read a lot.

This challenge couldn’t have come at a more perfect time since I only have the final book in the A Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snicket to read (well, techniqually listen to but details). I am actually currently reading The End by Lemony Snicket.

Buddy Read(s) of The Month

Keep It Diverse’s BOTM

This month in celebration of black history month in the US we’ll be reading Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I’ve been seeing this around the book community a lot recently and I’m so glad I finally have an excuse to pick it up. If you’ll be reading with us don’t forget to join the goodreads group, follow us on twitter/instagram because we’d love to discuss the book with you!

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This book is finally out and after months of seeing nothing but positive reviews for this I can’t wait to see if it lives up to the hype. I’ve heard the audiobook for this one is very good as the book is very atmospheric so I will probably end up listening to it.

Other Books

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

This book is rolling over from my last month’s TBR and I have already started it but I’m not very far in. So many people have told me this book is going to break my heart and I don’t know if I’m ready for that kind of pain.

Unite Me & Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Unite Me is a novella bind up and Unravel Me is the second book in the Shatter Me trilogy. I have already read the first novella in Unite Me and I am currently reading Unravel Me.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about this trilogy overall but I enjoyed the first book and I do think I’ll be in the group that ends up enjoying this series (as a large portion of the people who didn’t like this trilogy were the ones who enjoyed a certain character who I currently don’t care much for).

What books are you planning to read in February? Have you read any of the books I mentioned? If so, what did you think of them? Tell me in the comments!
